You must be just going into business, one I retired from after 47 years.

I started with a few hand tools and paintbrushes. We ate a lot of hamburger when we could get it.
I made flayers for Real Estate businesses and spent many days both mailing them out and taking them in person the the businesses. My own work after awhile brought the businesses I wanted.

After a couple of years I settled down with one or tow people (agents) and did very well.

For remodeling, go after the Rental, management businesses.

I use Craigslist a lot. Also there is a company called Bid-a-Builder. Google their site.

The best way is to make up a small flyer, and start pounding the pavement. Got ot large neighborhoods and put a flyer on the mailbox - note, I said on the mailbox NOT in the mailbox. Opening someone's mailbox is a federal crime.

Talk to other GCs and see if they need help with remodeling projects. Put a sign on your truck with your phone number.

Try www.bidclerk.com. They charge about $50/month for the service. Also; avoid states like Florida that have stringent licensing laws. You will find that as a licensed contractor, that you lose a lot of work to unlicensed trades who are poorly policed, and only hand slapped when caught. Also; I disagree with using a realtor as a source in this market. They all violate the licensing laws every time they open a roll-a-dex and call some unlicensed handyman for punch out work, unless they own the property themselves.
