Question:

If I fail or DOR Navy SEAL school or BUD/s, can I volunteer for Navy DIVER or EOD?

If I fail or DOR Navy SEAL school or BUD/s, can I volunteer for Navy DIVER or EOD? I have always wanted to be a Navy SEAL, but I had surgery on my shoulder last May and I question my physical ability to succeed in BUD/s. I can pass the PST no problem, but I am curious to know if I drop or fail BUD/s, can I try for EOD or Navy DIVER?

I know you can try out for the dive program, assuming you pass the physical requirements. There were a lot of BUD/s drop in Corps school who later went on to complete the dive program.

BUD/s duds do reassign to EOD, there were quite a few dropouts down at Eglin attending NAVSCOLEOD. How this process works I don't know .. I also don't know how many get that opportunity.

There is a Navy EOD tech that posts here, perhaps he will see your question and give you the most accurate up to date information.

I would advise, however, that you not use EOD as a backup to Navy SEALs. EOD in itself is a dangerous careerfield and takes a lot of focus and drive to accomplish the training.

Good luck.

EDIT: Mark, you are incorrect .. I have personally spoken with BUD/s dropouts that managed to get a chance at EOD school so please don't give false information. How they do it and how many the Navy allows and what the circumstances are is what is unknown to me which is why I deferred that response for the Naval EOD tech that's on Yahoo answers.

You seem to like to answer a lot of questions, and many times you are correct .. but there's no harm in admittng you may not know everything.

Good day.

Nope,

You will be sent to the fleet as an unrated seaman.

Or if you have a rate, you will sent to the fleet as your rate.

They aren't gonna let you do nothing for 3 months, while waiting for a slot in an A School.

If you were doing an outstanding job and tried your best during BUD/S, but happened to get injured; the CO may authorize you to tryout for EOD or ND. However, this is very rare though, but I heard that it happened once.

If you are DOR, then it means that you did not trying your very best; so no.

EOD pipeline may not be as physically demending as BUD/S, but it is not a walk in a park either. And many said that EOD School is one of the most difficult course to pass, and I believe it.
