Michelin LTX M/S or Firestone Destination LE?
Michelin LTX M/S or Firestone Destination LE? I have a Ford Explorer on which I have the Michelin LTX M/S and I used it for almost 7 years now and have around 90K + miles on it and it still hasn't reach the tread mark - maybe has another 5-8K miles on it.
I am planning to put in a new set of tires. The Michelins are pretty expensive compared to the Firestone Destination LE which I get with a 60K miles warranty.
I drive lot of highway with very few offroad adventures - maybe a couple of times a year. Please let me know your experience with the Firestone Destination LE tires. Are the Firestones still dangerous ?
Either tire is good for your situation. There were never anything wrong with the Firestone tires. Ford required 28 psi in the tires of the Explorer and the exhaust pipe ran directly in front of the tire that was blowing out. Low air pressure creates tire heat added to the heat the exhaust put out caused the tire to seperate and blow out. In order for Ford not to shoulder all the blame they muscled Firestone into taking the responsability or lose their biggest contract vender. So Firestone took the heat so they could still sell tires to Ford. Thats the inside story I heard and tend to believe.
